Both Air France and KLM have B 747-400 ERF aircraft in their fleet. Air France is the launch carrier of the latest extended range freighter, the Boeing 747-400 ERF. From a commercial standpoint, this aircraft offers several important new features compared with its predecessors:

  • Increased payload (up to 112 tonnes). 
  • Greater capacity (particularly with the additional pallet position on the main deck. 
  • 40% more operating range at maximum weight. 
  • The possibility of 6 seats a flight for customers accompanying their freight.

Thanks to this aircarft, Air France Cargo and KLM Cargo are able to operate non-stop flights between Europe and Asia or South America, thus reducing overall shipping times. Furthermore, it is an environmentally-friendly aircraft as it is cleaner and quieter, due to its latest-generation engines. Currently, fleet is typeset of eight aircrafts.

Designed as a cargo carrier, the Boeing 747 F has a reinforced cabin floor and fewer limitations than a standard passenger B 747. Air France Cargo operates B 747-200s over a 6,500 km range.

The aircraft is fitted with a side door or nose door (depending on the version) and will take twenty-nine 96"x125" pallets or containers on the main deck, nine pallets in the lower holds and loose freight in the bulk hold.
