Fuel price index mechanism | Fuel price index mechanism | AF-KL Cargo's fuel surcharge is implemented, increased, reduced or withdrawn on the basis of the following mechanism. Point of reference is the index of jet fuel spot prices (an average of the daily spot prices of Rotterdam, Mediterranean, Singapore, US Gulf Coast), based on a four years average (January 1996 - December 1999). The implementation date of the new fuel surcharge is the execution date; i.e. the date mentioned on the Air Waybill.
The fuel surcharge is generally based on actual weight and is applicable worldwide. Whenever local circumstances so dictate (e.g. local law, local industry standards or national carriers), the AF-KL Cargo fuel surcharge might be based on chargeable weight.
In the following countries, the fuel surcharge is based on chargeable weight: Argentina, Chile, China, Colombia, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and Uruguay.
